National Institute of Technology Srinagar is a famous technical university located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. It comes under the Top 31st National Institute of Technology, and they come under the supervision of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Started in 1960 as one of Various Regional Engineering Colleges established as part of the Second Five Year Plan (1956–61) by the Indian Government. It is handled by the National Institutes of Technology Act in 2007, which has decided it as Institute of National Importance.

National Institute of Technology Srinagar allows its undergraduate students through Joint Entrance Examination (Mains), previously AIEEE. It has 12 types of academic departments covering Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences program. Also, the instruction is given in English.

The Indian Government established one of the top eight Regional Engineering Colleges during the First Five Year Plan. The Institute transferred after five years to its present campus in 1965. This was granted Deemed University Status with the approval of the University Grants Commission, the All Indian Council of Technical Education, and India's Government. It became an Institute of National Importance through the parliament of India. This Institute is located on the western bank of Dal Lake near the Hazratbal Shrine in the northeastern region of Srinagar city. The Institute is far away, 23 km from the Srinagar International Airport and 13 km from the Railway Station of Srinagar.  Admission to postgraduate courses is made based on Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores, through Centralized Counselling for MTech (CCMT) for M. Tech courses, and through Joint Admission Test for M.Sc courses.

The university includes eight types of Branches of engineering departments for Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, and Information Technology, as well as four Physics, Chemistry, Humanities, and Mathematics. The campus contains academic buildings, student hostels with 100% residential facilities for faculty, staff, and students. The library houses 75,001 books. These campuses are expansive with fiber optic and Wi-Fi networks, covering all the departments, teachers' quarters, and students' hostels. There is a central computer lab in each department.

The Institute gives private hostels for the male and female students with separate Mess facilities. There are also guest houses for several to meet additional temporary housing needs for the starting three years of Btech, the one Hostel room shared by four students each. In contrast, each student allocates a single space in the Jhelum hostel in the final year. The rooms in the Jhelum hostel are given based on CGPA (up to the Five-semester). The M-tech students and PhD. In the Tawi hostel, three students are shared with one Room. There is a Common Hall, Infront of the hostels, which provides indoor games like table tennis and carrom, along with a gymnasium. The Institute has a Maintain Engineering Centre set up under the Indo-Italian together.

National Institute of Technology Srinagar follows strict rules for the placement policies. In contrast, every student's academic credential is thoroughly verified from the ERP web portal by the T&P Cells (Training and Placement) of the Institute. In addition, the Training & Placement cell of National Institute of Technology Srinagar follows "one person has one job policy". However, placed students will be eligible for a second placement round if the CTC offered is more than the first offer.

Facilities are available at the institution such as NSS, Bank, shopping mall, Recreational Centre, Dispensary with Ambulances, Guest House, Students Activity Centre, Gymnasium, Computer Centres, Generator, and Bus Facility. Unlike western countries, Indian cities do not acquire a hospitality infrastructure that can support large scale travel. In addition, the Government restricts as per diem at a level where it is often difficult to search for a reasonable accommodation in a commercial hotel. It is common practice in Indian institutes to make campus guest houses to manage official guests.

When does an NRI need their Transcripts?

Transcripts are usually needed by candidates to apply for a permanent residency, higher education, visa, H1B, immigration etc. You will also need valid University transcripts for applying to WES evaluation (ECA) which is required for obtaining a job, pursuing education or seeking PR in Canada. It is important to note that you need to apply for transcripts from your university, unless your college is Autonomous.
