Indian Workers in US Tech Giants Face Uncertainty: Latest Updates on H-1B & Employment Policies

Concerns among foreign tech workers in the US are growing as a result of the Trump administration's strict immigration policies. According to reports, American IT companies such as Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft, and others have requested their visa-holding staff to refrain from leaving the US out of concern that they would have problems returning. "The law firms have also warned that rejection rates for high-skilled visas, such as H-1B and Green Card, could increase," the Washington Post reported.

Malcolm Goeschl, principle lawyer at San Francisco-based Goeschl Law, is quoted in the report as saying, "What we're seeing right now is just a lot of worry and panic."  We have no idea what lies ahead, but it feels like [the administration] is just gaining more and more traction.

Tech Workers Cancel India Travel Amid H1B Visa Concerns and Divided Immigration Debate

According to two tech workers interviewed by The Washington Post, they have cancelled their plans to travel to India out of concern that they may not be allowed to renter the US.  One of the employees remarked, "Everyone who is not a U.S. citizen might be here illegally. " Another employee told the publication, "We always carry our documents when we're walking around."

It's crucial to remember that Trump's supporters are now divided over the most recent H1B visas.  Those who want to lower immigration to the United States are on one side, while IT leaders whose companies employ immigrants are on the other.  When the parties debated on X whether Trump should encourage or restrict skilled immigration in December, this dispute came to light.

Elon Musk said on X in December of last year, We need more like double that amount yesterday!  There are far too few extremely talented and driven engineers in the United States. Consider this as a professional sports team: you must find the best players wherever they may be if you want your TEAM to win the title.  The entire TEAM can win as a result.

Amazon had the greatest number of H-1B visa approvals in 2025.

Amazon was the company with the most H-1B visa applications in 2025, with 9,265 permits, according to data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).  Google came next with 5,364 approvals, followed by Cognizant with 6,321.  Along with other significant IT companies like Meta, Apple, Microsoft, IBM, and others, Elon Musk's Tesla also made a significant appearance.
