Canada Express Entry
Immigration to Canada refers to the process through which individuals migrate to Canada with the goal of settling there, with the vast majority becoming Canadian citizens. As of 2019, Canada has the world's seventh biggest immigrant population, with foreign-born persons accounting for almost one-fifth (21 percent in 2019) of the Canadian population—one of the highest ratios among industrialised Western countries.
-
Immigrants in Canada are classified into four groups under current legislation:
-
Family: those who are connected to one or more Canadian residents who live in Canada.
-
Economic: skilled workers, carers, or company owners.
Persons who are protected or refugees are those who are fleeing persecution, torture, or cruel and unusual punishment.
-
Humanitarian or other: people admitted as immigrants for humanitarian or compassionate motives.
Following Canada's confederation in 1867, immigration had a critical role in the development of enormous swaths of land. During this period, the Canadian government would sponsor information campaigns and recruiters to encourage settlement in rural areas; however, this would be primarily directed at those of European and Christian origin, while others—particularly Buddhist, Shinto, Sikh, Muslim, and Jewish immigrants—as well as the poor, ill, and disabled—would be rejected.
Following 1947, in the post-World War II period, Canadian domestic immigration law and policy saw substantial modifications, most notably with the Immigration Act of 1976 and the current Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) of 2002.
How Canada Express Entry works
Canada Express Entry is a method for online immigration applications. It enables anyone to submit a profile and be regarded as a skilled immigrant. Candidates with the top ranks are invited to apply for permanent residence.
-
Your application for Canada Express Entry will be graded based on a points system if you fill out a profile.

How are CEE profile points assigned?
Your Canada Express Entry profile will be scored based on the following factors:
-
your education level; your proficiency in English and/or French (Canada's two official languages);
-
Your work experience and capabilities; your age; if you have a job offer in Canada; and the education, language ability, and work experience of your spouse.
-
Additional points are also awarded if you have completed a college or university program in Canada or if you have a provincial nomination.
This graphic shows how many points you can get in each category. Please keep in mind that EE points are not the same as the Federal Skilled Worker point system.
How Does Canada Express Entry Select Applicants for Canadian Permanent Resident Status?
When you submit a profile, it will be added to a pool (group) of all the people who have already applied for Express Entry. You will then be rated against the other persons in the pool. Your ranking is determined by the quantity of points you have. If you are at the top of the rankings, your profile will be chosen (picked) from the list of applicants. You will subsequently be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence as a skilled immigrant. The IRCC maintains an up-to-date notice on the number of ITAs awarded and the minimum number of points required to get an ITA.
